Winnipeg Hawks were able to get the much-needed win under their belt after they beat Edmonton Royals by eight wickets in the Global T20 League.
It was the third win for the Hawks in the inaugural season of the Global T20 League. Thus, the David Warner-led team was able to move to the third position on the points table and in the process qualify for the playoff stages.
Warner won the toss and decided to put Edmonton Royals into bat. No Royals batsmen were able to get going, as they skittled out for a paltry score of 143 runs.
In response to Royals mundane score, Hawks cruised to the victory with eights and 20 balls to spare.
David Warner was able to get amongst the runs.
More importantly, Hawks skipper David Warner was able to get some crucial runs in his bag. Meanwhile, the southpaw batsman was finding the going tough after returning from the much-talked controversy. Warner scored 42 runs off 35 balls. Consequently, these runs would have done him a world of good.
Meanwhile, former Windies fast bowler Fidel Edwards was the star for the David Warner-led side. Edwards continued his good form going in the tournament, as he scalped four wickets after conceding only 19 runs.
Therefore, Edwards was awarded the Man of the Match for a fine bowling spell. In fact, Edwards has taken nine wickets in the four matches he has played in the season thus far.
Winnipeg Hawks got off to a good start as the opening partnership of David Warner, and Lendl Simmons put together an alliance of 90 runs.
Simmons scored a quickfire 38 off 23 balls. Furthermore, Mark Deyal provided the finishing touches to the run-chase, as he scored a brisk 37 off 19 balls.
Therefore, Winnipeg Hawks will once again lock horns with Edmonton Royals in the Eliminator of the league today. On the other hand, Vancouver Knights will square off with CWI B team in the first qualifier on Thursday.
