A spending few days behind bars, all the three corrupt officials of Goa Cricket Association (GCA) have been granted bail by a Goa court on Friday on a bail bond Rs 1 Lakh. The three officials of Goa Cricket Association namely president Chetan Desai, secretary Vinod Phadke, and treasurer Akbar Mulla were arrested on June 15 following charges of fraud of an amount of Rs. 3.13 Crores which was given by the BCCI to the state association.
BCCI annually gives a fixed amount of money to each cricket association for the development and betterment of cricket in the state.
Following their arrest by the Economic Offence Wing of the Goa Police BCCI suspended all the three officials with the immediate effect and also appointed a committee to investigate the matter. The report of the committee will be out soon and BCCI will take further action against them.
The triad is facing allegations of transferring the money provided by BCCI in their own personal fake. It is an illegal act and case of cheating.
Off them three, Vinod Phadke held an important role in Indian team as he was the manager of Indian cricket team for the ODI series against South Africa in 2015 and also at the Under-19 World Cup which was held in Australia in 2012. Indian team lost the ODI series by 2-3 whereas emerged as the world champions in the 2012 U19 World Cup.
Though the entire trio has been granted bail but they will be investigated further so as to churn out some more hidden facts from them.
Despite the trio being suspended, the Goa Cricket Association website still bears the name of all the three people along with their respective post.
