Goa Cricket Association Accepts Lodha Panel Reforms

After Vidarbha Cricket Association, the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has become the second full member of the BCCI to accept the Lodha panel recommendations in its totality.

The decision was taken at a special general body meeting at GCA’s headquarters in Porvorim on Sunday (September 10) where 86 of the 87 attending members have voted in favour of the change.

The only member who voted against the change was Hemant Angle. The member of the Sportsweek Cricket Club wanted an alteration in one of the guidelines, but did not find any support. Earlier this month, his petition at the High Court of Bombay at Goa, seeking the appointment of an amicus rise to inspect and examine the draft amendment of the GCA constitution was dismissed.

Suraj Lotlikar, president of GCA, confirmed the developments and said that the association will now write to the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators.

“Goa is the second association after Vidarbha to accept recommendations of the Lodha Committee. We have decided to accept the reforms in totality and will now write to the Committee of Administrators,” Lotlikar told The Times of India.

A senior GCA official further said the association was compelled to decide due to a cash crunch. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) had stated that the state associations would not be given funds until they accept the Lodha panel recommendations in totality and while the big associations are still in the defiant mood, the smaller ones seem to succumb to the financial pressure.

“It’s fine for big associations to resist changes and even defy Supreme Court guidelines. But for a small association like ours, it’s difficult. We need the funds to run Goan cricket,” the official told the news outlet.

Earlier this year, Vidarbha Cricket Association had become the first full member to accept the reforms in totality.
