Graeme Smith Announced As Head Coach Of Benoni Zalmi
The former South African skipper, Graeme Smith, will coach the Benoni Zalmi franchise in the inaugural edition of South Africa’s new T20 tournament. The announcement was made by the franchise on social media on Monday evening (August 21) –

Smith played a total of 117 Tests, 197 ODIs, and 33 T20Is. In the shortest format of the game, he maintained an average of 30+ at a strike rate of 127.53.
In the past, Smith has been part of various T20 franchises as well. In IPL, he used to play for Pune Warriors India and was also the part of Rajasthan Royals. He has the experience of playing cricket at all levels, which will come handy to the team

This will be Smith’s first ever coaching assignment with any team as he is yet to perform this role since his retirement. This can also be seen as his start of his coaching career.
The first job for Smith with the franchise would be to buy the players for the side on the auction day, which will take place on August 27.
Over 400 players will be up for grab and the coach will have the main role to design the winning combination for the team. Eight players namely Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Brendon McCullum, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen and Keiron Pollard have been named as the marquee players.

The other eight players namely Hashim Amla (Kingsmead), Quinton de Kock (Willowmoore Park), AB de Villiers (SuperSport Park), JP Duminy (Newlands), Faf du Plessis (Boland Park), David Miller (Mangaung Oval), Kagiso Rabada (Wanderers Stadium) and Imran Tahir (St. George’s Park) will represent the franchises mentioned alongside their name. It means that Smith already has Quinton de Kock by his side. The other slots will be filled on the auction day.
The inaugural edition of the T20 league will be played in the month of November/December later this year.
