‘It Would Be Great If MS Dhoni Continues Till 2019 World Cup’
Once again, the Indian selectors, have expressed the need to retain M.S. Dhoni in the limited overs squad till the 2019 World Cup as one of the sources close to selectors, recently in a talk with TOI said “It would make the job of the selectors easy if Dhoni continues to play the way he is playing today. His fitness level is as good as a newcomer’s in the team. “
Surely, there is no doubt over the fact that Dhoni is the best leaders and finisher in the history of cricket. He ensures that he finishes the job but from past more than one year, we have seen Dhoni unable to do what he used to do before. It looks like the unnecessary talks and media pressure is having a great impact on him, as a result, he fails to get the job done. Though, he, along with Virat Kohli, sailed the team’s boat in third ODI against New Zealand, but that was one of the rare occasions in past year or so. Failing to score 11 runs against rookie Kagiso Rabada last year at Kanpur was the biggest upset for the fans, but also it is a fact that he with his acrobatic wicket keeping skills blunts the loss by converting smallest of the chances into wickets, giving big blows to the batting team.
“He seems to be getting better with age and none of the selectors has discussed leaving out Dhoni in the future. He is an essential member of the ODI team and there is no one in sight who can replace him,” the source added. He is still on the radar of selectors, well why not? He has won India three ICC trophies, only captain to do so.
But a thing is to be kept in mind that the Champions trophy next year will surely be the deciding factor of M.S. Dhoni’s career. Being the defending champions adds extra pressure on him. If India performs well there, M.S. Dhoni’s place in the team is safe whereas there can be a rejig in the squad depending upon the performance of India next year.
Talking about his obvious successor Virat Kohli, he is all set to take over the team but yes the Mahi magic is something which no one can replicate or emulate in future.
