Gujarat Lions And Rising Pune Supergiants Interested In Picking Ben Stokes From 2017 IPL Auction
The two Indian Premier League Franchises Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants have shown an interest to pick England all-rounder Ben Stokes for the tenth edition IPL Auction which is scheduled on February four in Bengaluru.
Harvinder Singh, the Gujarat Lions’ Chief Executive Officer has shown some sought of interest to sign Stokes if he would be available for the IPL franchise for the longer period of time.
“If I told you that we are not looking at him as an option, then that certainly will not be the case. He is definitely an option. But I will not tell you whether he fits into our scheme of things or not,” Harvinder was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
There is always a demand for quality all-rounders in the world cricket and it has become a norm for a team to include such players to give a right balance to the teams particularly in limited-overs cricket.
“Ideally when you take in a player, you bring him in with the understanding that he will be available for all games,” Harvinder added.
RPS CEO Raghu Iyer also hinted to have an eye on England players, who would also be bidding for an impact player like Stokes in 2017 IPL edition.
“If English players (and Ben Stokes is certainly one) make themselves available for the entirety of the tournament, they are bound to create a flutter or two,” Iyer said.
England is set to play two-match ODI series against Ireland, but that has not been confirmed by England Cricket Board (ECB).
However, the tentative dates are May 5 for first ODI at the Bristol followed by May 7 at the Lord’s.
If the One-day matches get confirmed from England Cricket Board (ECB), many England players might miss their IPL stint including Stokes, who has made himself available for the auction.
