Only 38.1 overs could be bowled on a rain-marred Day 3 of the second Test between New Zealand-Pakistan at Hamilton.

Starting at 76/5, overnight batsmen Babar Azam and Sarfraz Ahmed played extremely well to bring up their 50-run partnership. Looking set to score a half-century, Sarfraz lost his concentration only to become Neil Wagner’s third victim of the innings. Sohail Khan then batted with maturity to help visitors get past the 170-run mark.

However, the wicket of Sohail was enough to mark the end of Pakistan’s batting as they were bowled out for 216, giving hosts a 55-run first innings lead. Babar Azam was the stand-out player for Pakistan as he remained unbeaten on 90. Sarfraz scored 41 while Sohail hit four boundaries and two sixes in his 37-run knock.

Jeet Raval and Tom Latham came out to bat but only one ball was possible as rain returned in Hamilton. A total of 120 overs have been lost due to rain so far.
