Australian batsman Shaun Marsh has voiced his keenness to bat at any position his captain would ask him to, if he makes into the playing eleven during any of the four Test matches against India, starting next month.
Among the many left-handers who were selected in the Australian squad to tour India, Shaun Marsh is the most experienced one, having played the IPL from its inaugural edition in 2008 and also touring sub-continent twice is Tests, both in Sri Lanka, once in 2011 and now in 2016.
During the home series against Pakistan, opener Matt Renshaw, having scored 217 runs in three matches at an average of 67.75, was impressive. Looking at Renshaw’s numbers, Marsh’s chances of returning to his preferred slot seems slim, which now open doors for him to bat down the order.
Speaking about this, Marsh said he is happy to bat anywhere in the line-up, be it the number sixth position also and that he will prepare himself accordingly.
“It doesn’t matter where they want to bat me. I’d be happy to bat anywhere. I’m sure they’ve got their ideas at the moment. I’ll just prepare as well as I can and see which way they go.”
Representing Perth Scorchers in BBL 2016/17, Marsh hasn’t been among the run-scorers, as he has managed just 67 in six games played so far. However, the 33-year-old feels the dry run with the bat will end soon, and he is hoping to contribute more in the upcoming matches.
“The confidence is there. It’s got nothing to do with confidence at the moment. I just need to get a few away. And if I can do that, I’ll be alright. It’s been a bit frustrating the last couple of weeks. But I guess that’s T20 cricket. I felt really good in the nets the last week or so. I know it’s not far away.”
Perth Scorchers will now play Hobart Hurricanes on Saturday (January 21st).
