The comeback of the Turbinator, Harbhajan Singh has given a lot of people something to smile about and Sunil Gavaskar was all praises for the veteran offie.
Gavaskar said that the inclusion of Harbhajan Songh showed the policy of selection used by the BCCI and that players are selected solely on the present form irrespective of seniority. He also added that Harbhajan Singh need not prove his skill to justify his place in the squad and that the 700 international wickets under his belt will speak for himself.
Singh who has had a good season of the IPL with 16 wickets in 14 matches, was estatic with the comeback. Gavaskar who was asked about his inclusion in the shorter format said that he does not have to prove himself and that sometime players are selected on the current form and is in good form having great control over his balls and also bowling slowly and getting the ball to turn. Gavaskar said that this is what has bought him back into the team.
The selectors who have picked a full strength squad showed faith in the MUmbai Indians spinner but Gavaskar said that though it will keep Ashwin fighting for a place in the team, bringing in a forgotten spinner is not good news for the future of Indian cricket. He also added that the full strength squad shows that they are not taking the Bangladesh lightly and that players only ask for rests when they think they can’t give their best for the country.
