Harbhajan Singh was recently asked to name his favourite batter at the moment. The former Indian spin great named his choice, calling his pick “probably the best batsman in world cricket”, besides giving due respect to the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
The former India spinner made the comments when he was asked during an interview to name his favourite batter and bowler. Harbhajan Singh replied by saying his favourite batter is Rohit Sharma and his favourite bowler is Jasprit Bumrah.
Harbhajan Singh’s Favourite Batsman Is Rohit Sharma In All 3 Formats
Rohit Sharma has scored 7238 runs as an ODI opener with an average of 57.44 in 141 matches. This includes 27 centuries and 31 half-centuries. He also holds the record of three double tons as an ODI opener. His highest score of 264 still seems unbreakable.
He achieved this milestone against Sri Lanka in 2014. The first double ton came against Australia in 2013 where he scored 209 runs in an innings. He hit the third double hundred when he was the captain during the match against Sri Lanka in 2017.
“Favourite batsman: Rohit Sharma. Whether T20, one-day cricket, Test cricket, when Rohit is batting, he is unbelievable. He has got so much of time, he makes batting look very, very easy,” Harbhajan Singh said.
“I think Rohit is probably the best batsman in world cricket, with all due respect to others like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. They are equally good as well but when Rohit plays, he is different level altogether. So Rohit is my favourite batsman,” Harbhajan Singh added.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is back from an injury break and will lead the Indian team in the upcoming home series against West Indies. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday 18-member squads each for the upcoming three-match one-day international series and the three-match T20I series at home against West Indies.
Rohit Sharma, India’s designated white-ball captain, will lead the team in ODIs for the first time as full-time captain as he missed the tour of South Africa due to a hamstring injury. Rohit Sharma’s return as full time skipper will be a big boost for the team which is still in a state of shock from its morale demeaning 0-3 ODI whitewash at the hands of the relatively inexperienced South Africans.
Harbhajan Singh Termed Jasprit Bumrah A Class Apart
Harbhajan Singh went on to term Jasprit Bumrah as “a class apart”. Australia recently handed over the Test captaincy to fast bowler, Pat Cummins. He has been successful so far, having led the team to 3 wins in four matches in the Ashes. Similarly, Jasprit Bumrah can also lead the side if the need arises.
In his Test career, Jasprit Bumrah has played 25 Tests and has bagged 105 wickets at an average of 22.45 economy of 2.64 and strike rate of 50.8. Out of his 25 Tests, only 2 have come at home and out of his 105 Test wickets, 101 have away from home.
“Coming to bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah I think is a class apart. Whether we talk about T20s, one-dayers or Test cricket, Jasprit Bumrah is a top-class bowler. These are my two favourite players,” he said.
Rohit Sharma is fit again and will lead India in the home series against West Indies starting February 6. The series comprises three ODIs and three T20Is and will see the return of Kuldeep Yadav as well.
The left-arm wrist-spinner has not played any kind of competitive cricket for the last six months, but India are in dire need of wicket-taking options in the middle overs and he has a record of being just that. On the batting front, Rajasthan’s Deepak Hooda has received a maiden ODI call-up.
Recent results – including the poor show at the 2021 T20I World Cup – have forced the selectors to look for more x-factor players, which works out well for the 21-year-old wrong’un specialist Ravi Bishnoi.
