Will Harbhajan Singh play for Bengal in the forthcoming Ranji Trophy? No chance for this Indian off-spinner to represent Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, leaving Punjab. Still Harbhajan’s existence will be felt in Bengal in the forthcoming domestic cricket season, during Ranji Trophy and in the domestic tournaments. Harbhajan’s sportswear company, Bhajji Sports is likely to be the kit sponsor of Bengal in the forthcoming domestic season. Although, none of the office-bearers of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) have made any official statement on the issue, it has been learnt that the joint-secretary of the association, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly himself taken initiative for the deal. And as he is highly admired by Harbhajan Singh till today, the Indian off-spinner, when requested by Ganguly to come forward, allowing his company to join Bengal as its kit sponsor, gave his nod immediately. It has also been learnt that Bhajji Sports has also given consent to join the under-19 Bengal cricket team as its kit sponsor along with its assistance. Bhajji Sports, having started its journey three years ago, had been associated previously with Punjab Cricket Association and Railways cricket team.
Meanwhile, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, captain of the Bengal team is optimistic about team’s performance in Sri Lanka. Talking about Bengal’s chances in the tour where Bengal will play two four-day matches against Sri Lankan combined eleven, said he is extremely hopeful of their performance in Sri Lanka. He said, “We have been going through extensive training in Kolkata for last couple of weeks. Then we had an impressive show in the invitational tournament in Bangalore. So we are in good shape. More importantly, our new coach Sairaj Bahutule is all set to join us at the end of this week. So, I am charged up.” The Bengal skipper also added that, while appointing him as the skipper of Bengal, nobody has set any terms on his captaincy saying that, he would be axed from the leadership if Bengal fails to perform in Sri Lanka.
