No Fitness Test, Hardik Pandya Wanted The Break To Work On His Back: Report
The allrounder Hardik Pandya doesn’t want to act hastily on his comeback. He wants to take time to recover after he went for surgery of his lower back. Currently, his name was withdrawn from India A’s squad, speculating he failed the fitness test. But it has been cleared that Pandya was dropped from India A squad because he wants to work more on his recovery.
After completing the home series against Australia, India will tour New Zealand to play five-match T20I series, three-match ODI series, and two Tests. Before this series, India A will play the practice match against the hosts New Zealand A which includes three one-dayers and two unofficial Test matches. Pandya’s name was included in the three one-dayers, but he has been ruled out from these matches.
A known source from BCCI has said that Hardik Pandya wants to work on his back so that he can regain his form back. He doesn’t want to compromise with his performance.
“To give you the real picture, he wasn’t satisfied after the high-intensity bowling workload test. There are few players who are tested based on workload. For example, a player who is coming back from a back injury, he is tested on the basis of his performance in a high-intensity bowling session.”
“The player is tested after he spends more than two to three hours at the nets. Now, when the player bowls for that duration, the bowling is monitored. Rhythm, speed, accuracy and how the player is coping with his plans and delivering is what is basically tested. So, if the body can’t take what the player has in the mind, it is not responding to the workload. Pandya was of the opinion that he wants to work on his back further,” the source explained.
Hardik Pandya’s injury:
In 2018, Hardik Pandya was injured during the Asia cup while bowling. Since then, he was managing his injury. The allrounder finally decided to undergo surgery which led to his ouster from the national team for the last three months.
After the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, he was given a much-needed break, excluding him from the West Indies tour. He then joined the team against South Africa in the T20I series on home ground. But the old back injury recurred ahead of the Bangladesh series. So, he went for surgery in the United Kingdom.
