Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, who have been with the Indian team for almost 10 months now was handed the ODI cap 20 minutes prior to the start of the game. He was well prepared for the game and was ready to go spot on. Dhoni showed faith in him and handed over the new ball to him ahead of Jasprit Bumrah.
Pandya first taste with the new ball was not the sweet one as he was smashed for 3 boundaries in his first over. While it could have been a big issue for any other bowler, Hardik took it as a challenge and bowled the next bowl to Guptill straight on the middle stump which forced Guptill to go on backfoot, he was trapped in an awkward situation and edged that one onto the second slips.
Rohit Sharma was fast on to that catch and grabbed it quite easily but it was not easy as it looked. The ball hit Rohit Sharma on his chest and hurt him. Rohit was seen touching his chest after the blow to ensure that everything is OK. His chest worked as a support for the catch as there was no chance that the catch would have dropped because it was well supported by his chest which acted as a support. Though Rohit was hit but he was quite happy and amused as the catch was taken.
This wicket marked an epic downfall of Kiwi innings and they were bundled out on a mere total of 190 in the end.
Pandya ended the innings with a match figure of 31/3.
