One of the mainstays of the Indian Women’s cricket team, Harmanpreet Kaur was elated after being offered the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and conceded that it was her childhood dream to work with the state police. The Punjab girl played a stellar role in India’ successful run in the recently concluded World Cup in England.

The hard-hitting right-hander smashed a sensational 171 in the semi-final against six-time champions Australia and single-handedly took India to the final of the quadrennial event. It was one of the greatest ever knocks in a World Cup game including the Men’s one. Her innings was decorated with 20 fours and seven sixes, as the Aussie bowlers were left clueless in front of an onslaught from Harmnapreet.

Harman met the Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday and stated that it was a proud moment for her and she was very lucky at receiving this prestigious position.

“I am feeling very proud after meeting the Punjab Chief Minister. It was my childhood dream to join Punjab Police and it is getting fulfilled today. I am very happy. I am feeling very lucky,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying by ANI.

“Unfortunately we lost in the finals. But we will try to improve our performance in the coming days as well,” she added.

She also said that with the help of Amarinder Singh she will look to improve the infrastructure of cricket by opening cricket academies which will provide training facilities to the budding boys and girl to improve their cricketing skills.

Amarinder also heaped praise on India’s star all-rounder.

“She played a brilliant game and it’s because of her India came into the finals. We are very proud that she is from Punjab and now she is going to be permanent with us in the Punjab Police. She is going to keep Punjab flag flying. She will be appointed as DSP.”

Harmanpreet was handed over a cheque of Rs. 5 lakhs as promised by the Chief Minister in August in the presence of Suresh Arora, DGP Punjab Police.

“This is a proud moment for us (Punjab Police). I am really grateful to the government also that they took a decision to offer her a post of DSP in Punjab Police,” said Arora.
