Want to be a professional cricketer?
Harsh Goenka, the chairman of RPG Enterprises and the brother of Rising Pune Supergiant owner Sanjiv Goenka, has taken a dig at Team India’s current situation with the head coach’s post. With Anil Kumble stepping down after being informed of Virat Kohli’s issues with his coaching, several former cricketers have slammed Kohli as well as the board for Kumble’s acrimonious departure.
And Goenka, who was all over the social media for anti-MS Dhoni tweets during this year’s IPL, has also joined the bandwagon. Making fun of the way in which Kumble departed, Goenka tweeted:“Pl apply for Indian cricket coach. Qualifications: Organise travel schedule, Fix hotel rooms, Be obedient to BCCI and Indian cricket captain.”
Heart of the matter:
India skipper Virat Kohli has been the subject of widespread criticism ever since Anil Kumble’s parted ways with the Indian team, citing the captain’s reservations over his style of functioning. The former India skipper’s exit ended the episode that had begun with reports of a rift between him and Kohli during the buildup of the Champions Trophy.
Kohli had denied all the reports but Kumble’s statement after his resignation made the whole matter crystal clear. And although Kohli has refrained from revealing his side of the story, he has been in firing line for his alleged role in Kumble’s decision to end his ties with the team.
While batting legend Sunil Gavaskar called it a sad day for Indian cricket, former England captain Michael Vaughan said India had lost a great man in Anil Kumble. Spin legend Erapalli Prasanna had also taken a dig at Kohli by saying the team did not need a coach when the captain is the ‘boss’.
Meanwhile, the new coach is expected to take charge before the next month’s Sri Lanka series. As of now, BCCI has extended the deadline for the application of head coach’s post to July 9 and the new applicants will join Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Dodda Ganesh, Richard Pybus and Lalchand Rajput.
