Harsha Bhogle Makes Controversial Remarks Yet Again, This Time About MS Dhoni And Steve Smith 1

The IPL auction is here and like every other year, it has some interesting and exciting news for fans around the world.

There have been some big money signings in the auction today but the biggest news came out even for the roll of a dice.

Rising Pune Supergiants, who made some brilliant progress in the auction, revealed before the start of the event, that they have removed Indian star Mahendra Singh Dhoni from the role of a captain for the current year.

The World Cup winning Indian captain, quit the role for the national team not so long ago after 9 successful years and it looks like his days of captaincy are completely over.

Rising Pune Supergiants owner Sanjiv Goenka spoke to the media about this decision and said, “Dhoni has not stepped down. We have appointed Steve Smith as the skipper for the upcoming season. Frankly speaking, we did not have a good last season and we wanted someone young to lead the side and revamp it ahead of the upcoming season 10,”

Standing as one of the most expensive and successful players in the Indian Premier League, Dhoni is a great leader and an even better captain but the Pune outfit have now decided to have Australian batsman Steve Smith as their skipper for this season of the competition.

Steve Smith is currently the captain in all formats for the Kangaroos but pundit Harsha Bhogle felt that it was too big a call for the club, to have been made this close to the auction.

The former Star Sports analyst took it to twitter to dissect this decision and wrote, “I think the franchise owner’s statement suggests it was their call and not Dhoni’s. That makes it a really big call. I wonder if Steve Smith will have the time to provide inputs into the kind of players he wants. And get to know the young Indian players.”

Here are his tweets:

This is the first time that MSD is ripped off the captain’s responsibilities in his career and Bhogle was right in questioning the method in which he was asked to step down.

However, Goenka further added that Dhoni will remain integral to the team for years to come and that this decision was in the interest of the entire team.

His statement read: “I have the highest regard for MS Dhoni as a leader and a person. Dhoni continues to be an integral member of our team. He is supportive of the decision keeping the franchise’s best interests in mind.”

Do you think Steve Smith can replicate what MSD has achieved over the years in the IPL?
