Harsha Bhogle praises Sourav Ganguly for hosting pink ball match

One of the finest cricket experts and a popular commentator, Harsha Bhogle has praised former Indian captain and current Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly on his initiative to host the Super League final as a pink ball match.

The super league is a popular domestic league in Bengal where 8 local clubs fight to achieve the ultimate glory and has been a path for the players to break into Bengal Ranji team.

The game will be the first time a pink ball will be used in India as Team India is also set to play a day-night test match this year.

Talking about this development, Sourav Ganguly said:  “Pink ball cricket indeed is the way forward. Test cricket’s popularity has been steadily declining and we must do something to arrest the slide. The pink ball Test in Australia last year received an overwhelmingly positive response (from the fans) and we must embrace the change.”

The former Indian skipper also feels that playing the final as a day – night match with the pink ball would be a good experience both for the players and the spectators.

“The Super League final under lights is an experiment with an eye to hosting day/night Tests in the near future. I think it would be a very good experience,” he added in his interview to Indian Express.

Looking forward to the event, Harsha Bhogle believes that the initiative taken by Ganguly would be a great experience.

The day-night cricket, also known as ‘Floodlit cricket’ is a format where the matches are played either totally, or partially, under floodlights. The format has been a huge hit when Australia took on New Zealand last year and have attracted huge crowds.

This format of cricket is set to feature more often as teams like South Africa, Australia, and England are ready to play.
