Harsha Bhogle, the world famous cricket analyst is all set to make a comeback to commentary box for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) as a story teller after serving an exile of one year,
“It’s our intention to get him back in the studio. However we have some paperwork formalities left but in all likelihood, we may see him doing commentary in the upcoming IPL,” Prasana Krishnan, EVP and business head, sports cluster Sony Pictures Networks India, said.
“Our idea is to bring in human element into every match. Every fan will have a story to tell which would be unique than the stats,” Krishnan added.
Bhogle’s contract was terminated last year for unknown reasons. Later, Bhogle himself expressed surprise on why he isn’t the part of IPL commentary team. But reports suggested that he was removed after few of the Indian players’ complaint about the way he analysed their performance.
The rumours got strength when the Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan expressed his displeasure on twitter against an Indian commentator not speaking in favour of the Indian team. Though he did not write Bhogle’s name but it was clear that Bachchan is pointing his finger towards Bhogle only. The matter became the talk of the town when MS Dhoni joined the chorus and tweeted in Bachchan’s favour.
Soon, Bhogle was removed from the commentary panel and Amitabh Bachchan was supposed to be the reason behind this snub.
However, now after a period of one year, it looks like Sony is all set rope in Harsha Bhogle, the voice of Indian cricket back in the commentary panel. Though broadcasters and BCCI are yet to come with an official confirmation on this matter.
The tenth edition of IPL starts from April 5 with defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore.
