Recently Cricket South Africa announced their own response to the Indian Premier League and will be having their own league as well.
CSA named it a T20 Global League which will start later in 2017. South African captain Ab de Villiers and star batsman Hashim Amla are among the eight marquee player in this league.
League will have eight teams from the different parts of South Africa. Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Capetown and Johannesburg, where Capetown and Johannesburg will be having two teams.
Marquee player concept is similar to what we saw in the Indian Premier League as an icon player. Eight different Marquee players will be allocated to all the eight teams in accordance with the city they are associated with or he can build a strong association with that city.
CSA has announced Ab de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Faf Duplessis, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada and David Miller as their eight marquee players.
CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat has said the selection of marquee players was very exciting and it will be more engaging when we have fans who will help us in allocating the players to the city.
All the eight players have expressed their happiness when they got to see their name on the list. South African Test Captain Faf Duplessis said,
“It is a great feeling to be named amongst the eight marquee players. These are some of the best player in the world. Playing against them in the league will be a different experience and fun”
Ab de Villiers also was proud to be part of this list, he said
“I am honoured to be part of this list and can not wait for the competition to get going.”
For the young South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, it was an honour to be featured on that list among the best of the best players in his country. He was overwhelmed when he saw his name on the list.
