Hashim Amla Breaks Virat Kohli's Record To Become Fastest To 7000-ODI Runs 1

Continuing his knack of breaking Virat Kohli’s record every now and then, South Africa star Hashim Amla has broken another record of the India skipper. The Protea opener, on Monday (May 29), surpassed Kohli to become the fastest to 7,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODI). Amla, who has played 153 ODI matches so far, is also the fastest to 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 ODI runs.

The right-handed batsman achieved the feat when he crossed the twenty three-run mark in the ongoing third ODI against England at Lord’s. Amla took only 150 innings to get to the 7,000 ODI runs while Kohli had taken 161 innings to achieve the feat. The India skipper had achieved the feat last year during his 117-run against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

South Africa’s ODI skipper AB de Villiers, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly and West Indies skipper Brian Lara completes the top 5.

Meanwhile, South Africa are chasing 154 runs to win the dead rubber. The world number one ODI side has already lost the series after losing the first two matches and would be looking to win the final match to salvage some pride and gain the much-needed confidence before the ICC Champions Trophy. At the time lunch break, the Proteas were 59 for no loss in 11 overs with Amla batting on 34 in the company of Quinton de Kock who was playing on 20.
