England all-rounder Moeen Ali, who is practicing Islam in the United Kingdom, is sporting beard owing to the religious considerations on micro-blogging site Twitter in July, was suggested not to draw the portraits, as it is forbidden in Islam, before many came in his support — to defend his work of sketch, for the purpose of raising the funds.
The 30-year-old Ali prepared a sketch of the former star of Windies Sir Vivian Richards for the charity campaign, as the painting was scheduled to be auctioned by a fund raising organization Cricket United.
However, the money was expected to go in favour of Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA), before the star for England in the Kennington Test was criticized for tweeting a self-painted caricature of legendary batsman Richards which became a heated debate over his Twitter handle.
“Please do support @CricketUnited and bid on my drawing of Sir Viv to support @PCA @Chance2Shine @LordsTaverners,” Moeen posted on his Twitter profile.
While holding a painting of Richards to pose for a photograph, Ali captioned the drawing which further read: ‘The Great Sir Viv, by Moeen Ali’.
Interestingly, the Cricket United has effusively praised Ali while responding to his Tweet for shown the great cause of concern.
“Thanks Mo! This is a great effort and everyone can get bidding now!!,” Cricket United posted in response to Cricket United.
Ali, who claimed a hat-trick in the 100 Test as a venue for The Kia Oval on Day five of the third Test – to give the hosts a lead of 2-1 in the four-match Investec series.
