Former Pakistan pace spearhead Wasim Akram has predicted a very bright future for Ruturaj Gaikwad in Indian cricket. The legendary cricketer’s comment came after Gaikwad enjoyed another impressive outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Chennai Super Kings.

The right-handed batsman played a crucial role in Chennai Super Kings’ triumphant campaign. He forged a strong opening partnership with Devon Conway and finished the season as Chennai Super Kings’ second highest run-scorer behind his opening partner.

Gaikwad scored 590 runs this season in 16 games. He scored 4 fifties and smashed an impressive 30 sixes while averaging more than 42. The performance this season has only extended his fine record for Chennai Super Kings. In 52 games so far, Gaikwad has scored 1797 runs for the Chennai-based outfit and has helped them win two trophies.

“He came up with an excellent performance under pressure. The plus with him is that he is physically very fit. He is a very good fielder and is young as well. Gaikwad has a bright future when it comes to Indian cricket as well as the franchises he plays for.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad to miss ICC World Test Championship final:

In another development, Ruturaj Gaikwad is all set to miss the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final between India and Australia. The right-hander was included in the squad as a back-up opener. However, he will miss the clash as he is set to tie the knot this week.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has replaced him in the India squad for the upcoming clash. Jaiswal earned the call after impressing in IPL 2023. The ICC WTC final between India and Australia is scheduled to take place from June 7 at the Oval in London.
