India’s score of 408 against Australia at Brisbane in the 1st Innings was the 4th highest score in Test matches that India has played in Australia against Australia. India got to this score thanks to some good batting from Murali Vijay as he scored 144 runs.

But the stats say that India has never won a Test match in Australia after scoring more than 400 runs in the 1st innings. Therefore the question is can MS Dhoni change this? It will surely tough for India to win this as Indians have already given away 97 runs lead to the Aussies.

Let us first take a look at India’s highest 1st innings score against Australia in Australia:

As we can see, In India’s top 10 scores in the 1st innings only 2 have India won the match. Though there is a good chance to take this tally a number higher this time round.

India’s highest score in the 1st innings against Australia in Australia is 705 at Sydney in the year 2004, but even this match ended in a draw. India’s second best performance has also come in Sydney in the year 1986 where they 600 but the result wasn’t good here either.

In this the only 2 occasions where India has managed to win is in 2008, at Perth after India scored 330 runs in the 1st innings. Another win for India was registered at Melbourne in 1977, where India scored 256 runs.

Currently India is fighting back to set a stiff target for the Aussies to chase in the 4th innings. With still 2 days left in the match, there are 70:30 chances of us seeing a result in this match.
