The highest score by an Indian batsman in Test cricket is held by Virender Sehwag when he scored 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2003. The first Indian batsman to score a triple century in Tests and one of the only four batsmen to score two triple centuries in Test cricket, Sehwag’s knock came after South Africa had India in a spot of bother by scoring 540 runs in the first innings. However, Sehwag completely changed the face of the match with a stunning innings that propelled India to a huge 627. His 319 runs came at a strike rate of over 100 and were studded with 42 fours and 5 gigantic maximums. As expected, the run-fest ended in a draw.
