This was the inaugural match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 where Chris Gayle and Davon Smith showed the power with their bat. Gayle was unstoppable on that day as he went on to smack ten sixes and seven fours in his 117 runs knock which he achieved in just 57 balls. He stitched up 145 runs partnership with another opener Devon Smith who scored 35 runs off 34 balls. It became the highest partnership of that inaugural tournament.

The duo guided West Indies to put the 206 runs target against the hosts South Africa. Disappointingly, West Indies could not defend their total and lost the match by eight wickets.
