In one of the exciting contests, Australia had pummeled South African bowlers at their own den. However, the visitors went on to lose the game on the penultimate delivery of the 50^th over.

On 12 March 2006, Australia posted the daunting target of 435 for the hosts Proteas. Well, a400-plus highest team score in ODI cricket was chased down by the Proteas against Australia.

Setting an example as a leader, Ricky Ponting scored 164 off 105 deliveries. Mike Hussey and Adam Gilchrist registered a half-century each to make it one of the exciting contests in the ODI history.

However, Herschelle Gibbs‘ spectacular 175 and Mark Boucher’s significant contribution saw hosts home following quickfire 90 from Graeme Smith.
