Hit By Demonetization, England Players Yet To Receive Daily Allowances From BCCI!

The demonetization step taken by the Indian government which has made all notes in denominations of Rs500 and Rs1,000 be illegal in the country is not only affecting the common people but also the England squad members who are currently in the country for a five-match Test series.
The cash is not the only problem with them as they are yet to receive their daily allowances from the BCCI as the Indian cricket board is yet to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which covers this payment, with the ECB. Although the Supreme Court has sanctioned the amount for organising the first three Tests, it does not include the daily allowance.
The Deccan Chronicle reported that the while the match officials and Indian players have been receiving their daily allowances, the England members are yet to receive their daily allowance which is around 50 pounds per day.
As quoted in the Deccan Chronicle, an England insider revealed:“Yes, England team is yet to receive any allowances from the BCCI.”
When the source was asked how the England squad members are managing with the limited cash at their disposal, he said: “The players and support staff are mainly doing the transaction through credit card and there was some limited cash (Indian currency) that was provided to them by the manager.”
“I would not say there are major financial difficulties but there is an inconvenience of the limited cash available,” the source added.
While there has been no comment from the BCCI yet on the issue, BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke had asked the England cricket board to bear its own expenses during the series due to their problem with the Lodha Committee.
“BCCI is at present not in a position to execute the MoU between the Indian cricket board and the ECB. This is due to restrictions on the execution of contracts imposed on the BCCI by a Court order,” Shirke had said prior to the series.
