The T20 world cup is knocking on the door. Only 5 months left for the multilateral tournament scheduled in India next year.
Hong Kong has done a pretty good job as they made the list of ICC top 10 team for the first time in the history of T20 cricket.
It was indeed a good sign for an associate member of the ICC. However, Hong Kong jumped ahead Bangladesh in the list. Bangladesh have slipped to 11th position.
After Hong Kong’s entry, the newly updated ICC T20 ranking has two non-Test playing nations in the list of top 10. Afghanistan stands in the 9th position just below England while Hong Kong have 72 rating points in 7 matches. Afghanistan has 81 rating points in 14 matches.
England, whose Test ranking is 6th, are the worst performer among the top Test playing nation. They have 107 rating points in 107 T20s.
Meanwhile, the list is topped by Sri Lanka who have 125 rating points in 17 matches. The second position is held by Pakistan, who have 121 rating points in 24 matches.
Sri Lanka have won the 2014 edition while Pakistan won the 2009 edition.
Meanwhile, India the champion of an inaugural edition of 2007, are at the 6th position with 110 rating points in 14 matches.
West Indies, who failed to qualify for the 2017 champions trophy, are standing at the No 3 with 118 rating points in 19 matches. Australia also have 118 rating points in 17 matches.
Meanwhile, in the World T20 2016 the top six teams of the ICC World T20 qualifier, which jointly hosted by Ireland and Scotland, will join the ICC full member teams in showpiece tournament starting on March 11, 2016. The qualified teams are Scotland, Netherlands, Afghanistan, Ireland, Hong Kong and Namibia.
New Zealand, who has been playing fascinating cricket for the last few months, yet to recover their T20 fortune. They are ranked No.7 as they have 107 rating points in 17 matches.
However, the bottom 7 of the 15 team T20 list finds two Test playing nations. Zimbabwe, who are the worst performer in all three formats stand behind Bangladesh, Scotland and Netherlands have 66 and 61 points respectively.
Zimbabwe have 53 rating points in 16 matches while Ireland stands at the bottom of the list as the have only 42 rating points in 10 matches.
