The 13 teams ODI league:
ICC is not just going to formalize the two-tier Test system but also the newly proposed a 13 teams ODI league which will run for three years and every team will play one three-match series in three years time. Total 36 games will be played in three years time. The top two teams will vie for the championship and the bottom team in the league will be relegated.
This league will encourage ICC’s other 102 members to contest among them in ICC Intercontinental Cup and book a berth in the 13 teams league system. The relegation will add a twist in the league.
However, all the teams are allowed to play separate bilateral series, but, that should not affect the ICC’s league system. On the other hand, the ICC World Cup will continue without any hindrance. So, two world champions will be at the stake after every three and four years respectively.
With two 50 over championship will be at the stake the Champions Trophy, which features eight teams, will have no room in ICC’s tight schedule and it has no role to play in ICC’s developmental work.
