The former England wicket-keeper batsman, Alec Stewart has showered heaps of praise on Indian spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin saying he is a huge fan of him.
Meanwhile, Ashwin’s place in the playing XI has been in jeopardy since the rise of Kuldeep Yadav. The young spinner was in outstanding form in the limited-over series. He bagged a six-for and a five-for to make it into the Test team.
Since then, many cricketers have backed Kuldeep to start ahead of Ashwin for the first Test. Alec Stewart admits he will choose Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja any day over Kuldeep.
“I am a massive fan of Ashwin, and he is an impressive performer. Jadeja has had some success against England as well. But if someone has got mystery, you might want to play him,” Stewart told PTI.
Furthermore, Stewart added decoding Kuldeep will be a major task in the Tests. However, English skipper Joe Root has deciphered the wrist-spinner and played him well in the ODIs.
Furthermore, the former cricketer is looking forward to how Kuldeep fairs in the upcoming series.
“A mystery spinner creates doubts if you haven’t faced much of him, and it makes for great cricket when the batsmen are trying to figure out from 18-22 yards, which way it will go. But England, especially Joe Root, started to work out Kuldeep since Lord’s and the question is how Kuldeep is going to bowl in Test cricket,” Stewart added.
In conclusion, Alec Stewart added Virat Kohli is a positive leader and will back him. The five-match Test series starts on August 1 at Edgbaston.
