Tim Paine, the newly appointed Test captain of Australia, does not know whether he will be designated as the captain of limited-overs format as well.
Paine has said he is just the captain in Test format and does not know regarding the limited-overs team,
“(I’m) Just the Test captain at this stage. There’s a one-day team that will be announced in the next two or three weeks, and I’m sure those discussions are going on behind closed doors,” he said as per Cricket.com.au.
Paine was surprisingly given the captaincy charge on day four of the third Test between Australia and South Africa when Steven Smith relinquished the captaincy.

He later led the team in the fourth Test match as well. Until then, it was not confirmed whether he had been appointed as full-time captain or not?
Now, it seems to be confirmed that he has been appointed as permanent Test captain and will perform the duty for a more extended period.
His future in white ball cricket as a captain is though yet to be known.
With Cricket Australia handing a contract to Alex Carey, it is an indication that he will also be in contention in the limited-overs format.
Should Tim Paine not be able to manage all three formats, Carey can always be used. Carey has played one ODI and five T20Is till now. He made his ODI debut against England in Brisbane early this year.
While Paine seems to be the front-runner for the wicket-keeping job, Aaron Finch might lead Australia in the limited-overs format.
He had led Australia in the limited-overs format in the past and seemed to take over the job on permanent basis.

The aggressive batsman recently said he is also eyeing a spot in Australia’s Test side. Apart from captaincy question, Cricket Australia also has to address the issue regarding the Head Coach.
The cricket association will kick off proceedings to find a new coach tomorrow (April 20). The name of Justin Langer is making sounds at the moment for the job. He might be accompanied by Ricky Ponting and Jason Gillespie in the backroom staff.
Australia will have a new captain and a new Head Coach on the first tour to England post ‘sandpaper gate’.
