‘I Assumed To Myself That He’s Gone’ – Ricky Ponting Recalls Almost Losing His Son

Former Australian cricketer revealed the biggest scare of his life as he feared he had lost his son. Ricky Ponting is one of the greatest Australian batsman and captain. He led his side to glory on multiple occasions winning two Cricket World Cups in 2003 and 2007 and two Champions Trophy victories in 2006 and 2009.

He is the most successful captain in international cricket history, with 220 victories in 324 matches with a winning ratio of 67.91%. Ricky Ponting debuted for the team in 1995 and retired from the sport in 2012, with colossal accolades to his name. He had a stubborn winning mentality that led to many infamous incidents but also helped him become a proven match-winner for his team.

Ricky Ponting recalls the horrific incident

The Australian skipper was enjoying his time playing golf when his wife called him telling him to hurry his way back home, as their son was in a critical state and had to be rushed to the hospital. The doctors did a CT scan and found a spot on his head, they were all horrified.

“He was simply six weeks previous when he had meningitis, which was terrifying for us. I used to be really enjoying golf, and Rianna rang me and stated, ‘You better come to the residence rapidly. Fletcher’s simply screaming uncontrolled. We’ve required to go hospital’.

By the point we acquired to Emergency it was like he was unconscious, all of the life had fully gone out of his physique. The medical doctors requested if he had hit his head which we knew he hadn’t after which they took him away for a CT scan fearing he’d had a stroke,” said Ponting as quoted by Eagles Vine.

The ‘Punter’ was terrified when he held his son in his hand and shook him only to find him motionless. A bacteria was eating up his flesh inside his stomach. His son stayed in the ICU  completely unresponsive for two weeks.

“Usually I’d stand over him, and he’d really feel my presence and open his eyes slightly bit. This evening, I stood over him, with all of the noise of the machines going off and grabbed him, and was shaking him, attempting to get him to reply, however, there was nothing. No motion. Nothing. He was simply limp. I assumed to myself, “He’s gone!”

“It’s the place your thoughts goes. Your physique goes numb. You might be helpless. Fortunately, Rianna wasn’t there, as a result of if she was, it might nonetheless be haunting her to this present day. There’s nothing scarier,” he added.

Ricky Ponting had a great playing career and now desires to coach the Australian national team.
