While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) postponed their recent conference meeting with the IPL franchise owners, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has no clue about the future of IPL 2020.
IPL 2020 was initially planned from 29th March to 24th May 2020. But due to the coronavirus outbreak, while India and the other countries are struggling, the BCCI earlier decided to postpone the IPL 2020 till mid-April.
On Tuesday (24th March), the BCCI scheduled a meeting with the IPL franchise owners to discuss the fate of IPL 2020. But while the entire country is currently in the lockdown position, the BCCI has postponed that meeting.
Sourav Ganguly has clarified that he has no idea about the future of IPL 2020 while the global situation hasn’t changed yet.
Ganguly told PTI, “I can’t say anything at the moment. We are at the same place where we were on the day we postponed. Nothing has changed in the last 10 days. So, I don’t have an answer to it. Status quo remains.”
Even despite observing the present unavoidable situation, Ganguly doesn’t feel the possibility to change the Future Tour Programmes (FTP) in international cricket.
He added, “You can’t plan anything. The FTP is scheduled. It’s there and you can’t change the FTP. All around the world, cricket and more so sports have stopped.”
I am not sure whether you can get insurance money: Sourav Ganguly
While the BCCI and all the franchises will face losses if the IPL 2020 gets cancelled, Ganguly is unsure of getting insurance money due to this reason.
He said, “I am not sure whether you can get insurance money. Because this is a government lockdown. I am not sure whether a government lockdown is covered by insurance or not.
“We will have to see. We have not assessed all these things. At this point in time, it is very difficult for me to give any concrete answer.”
When Ganguly was asked whether the richest international cricket board was planning to donate some money to fight against the ongoing coronavirus issue, the BCCI president claimed that they hadn’t discussed it yet.
Ganguly claimed, “I haven’t had a discussion with Jay. Let’s see. We will assess the situation, follow directives and see what happens.”
While Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) has already offered dormitory for coronavirus patients, the former President of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has clarified that they can also provide the similar facilities in the Eden Gardens Indoor if the state government wants.
Ganguly said, “If the government asks us, we will certainly hand over the facility. Anything that is need of the hour, we will do it. There is absolutely no problem.”
The BCCI President has also supported the lockdown plan in the country.
