India fast-bowler Deepak Chahar has opened up on the injury struggles he has endured this year. The 29-year old has not played a competitive game since February due to the various injuries. Chahar had to miss this year’s Indian Premier League too after Chennai Super Kings splashed a whopping amount of INR 14 crore at the February mega auction to secure his services.

He was first ruled out of action due to a quadricep tear he picked during India’s T20I series against West Indies. In order to recover from that injury, he went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) where things went from bad to worse. While recover from the quadricep tear, the right-arm pacer suffered a stress fracture in his back which eventually ruled him out of IPL and has sidelined him for more than 5 months.

Deepak Chahar on his injury struggles:

In a recent interview with News24 Sports, Deepak Chahar revealed just how tough the last few months were for him. Chahar revealed that he decided against undergoing surgery following the quadricep tear in order to play the IPL. He then started having pain in his teeth and had to get his wisdom tooth removed. And as if those were not enough, Chahar ended up suffering a back injury.

“It was a very difficult time. When I got injured, I had to decide whether to undergo surgery or not and I decided against it. I wanted to play the IPL. Had I undergone surgery, I would not have played the IPL. After that, I started having pain in my teeth and had my wisdom tooth removed. I could not sleep at night. I used to take 3-4 pain killers,” Deepak Chahar told .

“It used to bleed and my face had swollen too. When I started playing after that phase, I was confident of playing the IPL. But then I suffered a back injury which turned out to be a stress fracture. Stress fracture takes 4-5 months to heal and I was back on the bed again. Gradually, I started my rehab. Last 5 months have been very tough,” he added.

Chahar will finally make his much-awaited return to action during the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe later this month. He has been named in the India squad for the three-match ODI series. According to reports, the pacer is also in line to be named in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022.
