The 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev has set up an example of courage and commitment and above all by not relying on since his retirement from the international cricket for India. The veteran all-rounder is not relying on the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) pension to make ends meet.

The 60-year-old Dev had served Indian national cricket team for over 16 years since 1978. The fast bowling all-rounder has featured in 225 ODIs apart from 131 Tests between 1978 and 1994.

The celebrated cricketer Dev, who also became first-ever Indian captain to lift the coveted title in England when they trounced the Windies by 43 runs at historic Lord’s on 24th of June 1983.

The legendary cricketer Dev himself revealed that he had not sought any financial help from the world’s richest board following his retirement in 1994.

Besides, the family of three, include his wife Romi apart from their daughter Amiya, 23.

Meanwhile, Dev has set up a personal business to employ around 40 people into the full-blown business of floodlights.

The reputed cricketer Dev, who also graced the game as a commentator, further played a crucial role in guiding youngsters.

Dev has come up with a unique way to give it back to cricket, and he established his business under the banner of ‘Dev Musco Lighting Pvt Ltd’ which deals with installing of floodlights at distinct venues for sports.

As per the company, it has availed technical support from the American-based firm for the installation of the floodlights.

Interestingly, in his recent interview with the Hindu, Dev revealed why he opted to get the pension from the BCCI.

The report suggested Dev had once witnessed a captain (unnamed) waiting to receive his allowances outside the then BCCI secretary’s room who according to Dev was sleeping inside his office chamber.

“The secretary was sleeping and could not be disturbed. I was disturbed and decided that day that I will not depend on the BCCI for financial support after my retirement,” Dev told the Hindu.

Dev also conceded that cricket had given him enough to live his life humbly. He reiterated that he hadn’t taken a single penny from his BCCI’s pension.

“I have not taken a penny from the pension; not a penny. There was a certain standard of living. I had developed and did not want to miss it when I stopped playing. I wanted to give the best to my near and dear ones,” Dev concluced.

The star cricketer Dev has 5248 runs to his name in 184 Tests innings. Furthermore, he claimed 434 wickets in 227 innings.

In 198 ODI innings, Dev accumulated 3783 runs, whereas, he has bagged 253 wickets in 221 innings.
