The right handed batsman soon graduated from school cricket to Mumbai junior side and within few years, also made it to the India U19 team. However, it was on his Ranji Trophy debut when Shaw made sounds as he became the first ever batsman for Mumbai since Amol Muzumdar to score a century on debut. He continued his good run in the final as well, but an innings of 143* from Parthiv Patel helped Gujarat to win the Ranji title for the first time.

Shaw though had made a name for himself, and he went onto replace Abhishek Sharma as the captain of India U19 (Youth ODI) for England tour. Apart from leading the team to a series win, he shone with the bat as well. The effort has paid fruits to him as he has been called to the India Red side in place of Abhinav Mukund. The youngster wasn’t expecting a call, and it has come as a surprise to him,
“I didn’t expect to get a call-up for Duleep Trophy because I have figured in just two Ranji Trophy matches. I think the selectors and coaches trust me to play well,” Shaw told mid-day.
“All the players along with captain Dinesh Karthik and coach Narendra Hirwani sir welcomed and congratulated when I joined the team for practice. Hirwani sir told me to play my natural game,” he added.
On being asked about having any pressure regarding the call-up, the boy revealed that he is not taking any pressure but is nervous,
“I don’t think there is any pressure on me, but I am slightly nervous as I will face India’s best attack if I get a chance to play. It will definitely be a challenge, but at the same time, this experience will teach me how to play at the higher level.”
Though Shaw didn’t get a place in the playing XI for the first game but surely, with a selection for the match, he has presented a case for himself and will be on the fringe of selection in the nearby future.
