Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag expects Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli to finish as the highest run-getter in the 2023 ODI World Cup on home soil. He is hopeful that Kohli will receive a similar response to Sachin Tendulkar in 2011 for all that he has done for the nation over the years.
When they won the 2011 World Cup, Kohli was among the young people who carried the legendary Sachin Tendulkar on their shoulders. The 34-year-old will enter the ODI World Cup with fine form and would intend to keep it up going into the event. He must maintain composure in big games as he is expected to play a critical role for the Men in Blue in a marquee event.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag is hopeful of Virat Kohli scoring more hundreds in the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India and wants him to be carried on the ground after winning the championship just like the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
“Cheeku (Kohli) didn’t score a single century in the 2019 World Cup, this year I hope he scores many hundreds and ends up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Then, I want him to be carried on the shoulders and get a round of the ground,” Virender Sehwag said.
In 26 innings over three World Cups, the former Indian captain scored 1030 runs, including six half-centuries and a few hundred and the prolific Indian batter would look to add more runs to his tally by performing consistently for the team in the forthcoming mega-events.
Rohit Sharma Became The Badshah Of ODIs After 2011 World Cup – Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag believes that Stalwarts of Indian Cricket Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli deserve to win the championship on home soil for their contribution to the team over the years and reckons that the Indian skipper would love to win the trophy after narrowly missing out on the squad for the 2011 ODI World Cup.
“These two (Rohit & Kohli) senior players deserve to win the World Cup. Rohit Sharma was so close to getting picked for the 2011 World Cup but missed out. Later he became the Badshah of ODIs, he deserves to win a World Cup trophy because he is a fantastic player,” Virender Sehwag added.
Rohit Sharma has been a phenomenal opener for the Indian team in all three formats of the game for India. Rohit made his debut for India in the ODI format, back in 2007. His career took a massive turn for the better after being made to open the batting in 2013 and would look to inspire the team to the third ODI World Cup title.
