I Want To Be A Better Player When I Come Back: Karun Nair

Karun Nair’s career was expected to take off when he became just the second Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket, but instead, the burden to perform proved to be too heavy and the right-handed batsman could just manage 54 runs in next four innings, with the highest score of 26.

Later, he got dropped from the Indian team for the tour of Sri Lanka, and now, he finds himself a bit lagging behind due to some options which have emerged out in past few months.
The right-handed batsman is unfazed by what all has happened and is focused on his job of scoring runs, to get a call-up to the Indian team again,
“At the moment that is all that I am thinking of, to put runs on the board consistently; the rest should take care of itself. Only scoring runs are in my hands. I am doing what is under my control. And I want to be an even better player when I come back,” Karun told Sportstar after the end of Karnataka’s game against Maharashtra.

Karun has started Ranji Trophy season on a high note as in both the games he has played in the season, the right-handed batsman has scored a century and is looking in fine touch for the season ahead. He has to continue scoring if he wants to make it to the Test side for the tour of South Africa.
He has many competitors in the line, but Nair feels that the competition is good for Indian cricket,
“It was nice to get back-to-back hundreds in the Ranji Trophy. It’s important for me to convert my starts into big scores. I want to ensure that I am ready when I get an opportunity to play for India again. He admitted the competition was tough for a spot in the Indian middle order. There is healthy competition, yes. But that is good for Indian cricket,” he added.
Karun’s rise in cricket was marked with an immediate fallout as well, which was evident by the fact that when DDCA inaugurated a gate to honour Virender Sehwag, they even forgot that Sehwag was not the only player to score a triple century in Test cricket for India.
Had Karun continued his form, the people would have remembered his record, but he vanished from international level soon.
Still, the age is by his side, and the middle order batsman has a chance to get back his place in the Indian team. As of now, his next assignment is against Delhi in Alur in the next round of Ranji Trophy 2017/18.
