TogglePerhaps, Shreyas Iyer is one of the unluckiest cricketers in modern-day cricket. He has got ingredients to do well for the Indian National Cricket Team and proved himself time and time again in the domestic circuit. But, unfortunately, he never got enough chances to sustain in the national team.
Shreyas Iyer already received the cap in the ODI format of the game. However, he hardly got a chance to sustain in the side, despite scoring runs when it mattered the most for the team. Sadly, the selectors asked him to perform in domestic circuit once again to get the nod.
The eventual goal is to play for Country – Shreyas Iyer
Speaking of the same, Shreyas Iyer expressed that he is pretty disappointed with the call from selectors to be dropped. Iyer feels that he didn’t get enough chances to showcase his talent to the world by playing for the Indian National Cricket Team.

“Yeah, I felt that way. If there was some other player in place of me, he would have also felt disappointed. Your eventual goal is to play for your country. I was disappointed when I was dropped and didn’t get fair enough chances,” Shreyas told TOI. “But when you look at the TV and see your team winning, it gives a lot of satisfaction. That is more important.”
Selection is not in my hands:
Shreyas Iyer quoted that he has done everything that selectors asked him to do in the domestic circuit. He added saying that a good IPL season would put him in the scheme of things for the world cup and push selectors to think twice during the discussion of the selection.

“I am doing really well in every tournament. I am enjoying my cricket and not thinking about the selection process. Selection is not in my hands. My job is to perform and I’m doing that. Anything can happen (in the future), you can get a random call from the selectors that you’ve been selected for the World Cup. And, if I perform in the IPL, then they (selectors) will have to think twice about me,” he added.
As Shreyas Iyer said, he had done brilliantly for Mumbai and India A during his stay with the team. Recently, he made massive tallies in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2019 to press his case for the selection in the Indian team.
However, now his main goal would be to perform in the Indian Premier League 2019 for Delhi Capitals. The right-handed batsman can be the option for India at the number 4 slot, as suggested by the Australian great Ricky Ponting.
