Ever since Yuvraj Singh announced his retirement from international cricket, there have been tributes pouring in for the cricketer. One such former cricketer is Shoaib Akhtar, who poured his heart out and praised Yuvraj’s achievements in the 22-yard.

Arch-rivals on the field, friends off it

Yuvraj and Akhtar have been part of many Indo-Pak tussles and therefore the duo shares numerous memories. The ex-pacer said he was impressed by Yuvraj’s knock at the 2003 World Cup.

“Yuvraj is a rockstar, a match winner and a very good friend. When I saw him in 2003 in the World Cup match at Centurion, he played a very good knock and I always found him as an elegant batsman. He’s a Punjabi and speaks our language,” Akhtar said in a video on Monday.

Akhtar highlighted the fact that the Indian all-rounder was instrumental in India lifting the World Cup in 2011.  Yuvraj was adjudged the man of the series as he contributed with the bat and ball throughout the tournament.

Akhtar heaps praise on Yuvraj

“I remember that he used to play very fluently. Yuvi always knew a lot about cricket. Yuvraj has done wonders for his nation. He was an integral part of India’s 2011 World Cup triumph and his six 6’s against Stuart Broad will always be remembered. He is very patriotic and he will always remain the biggest match-winner. I wish him all the very best for his future,” he added.

Yuvraj replied to Akhtar’s tweet and returned the favor by saying, “Thanks payan for ur lovely wishes. Trust me Every time u ran into bowl at me it was terrifying! Had to gather a lot of courage to face u. We had some great battles will always cherish those moments @shoaib100mph.”Apart from international cricket, Yuvraj also announced that he won’t be taking part in the IPL anymore.
