Star Australian batsman, Steve Smith has opened up on him assuming the responsibilities of the Australia National Cricket Team after a lot of debate has been doing the rounds in the media of him not being handed the captaincy of the Australian team.
Notably, Steve Smith was banned by Cricket Australia (CA) in 2018 for a year for his involvement in the infamous Sandpapergate scandal and he was the skipper of the Australian Cricket Team across all formats when he was banned.

Steve Smith Opens Up On Assuming The Australian Captain’s Role
“There were discussions taking place. I think JL (Justin Langer) answered the question when asked about me and captaincy, For me, I just said I am happy to do whatever is best for the team and that’s the same going forward. I do whatever I can for the team,” Smith told reporters.

“Right now, I think Tim and Finchy are doing really good jobs in both formats of the game. I’m comfortable with where I’m at right now, but as I’ve always said I will do what is best for the team.”
Questions On Smith’s Captaincy Doing The Rounds Since His Return
Steve Smith returned to Australian cricket with a bang as he had a phenomenal Ashes campaign in 2019 in England against the hosts. Ever since then, the demands of handing the captaincy back to Smith has been doing the rounds in the Australian media.

When Matthew Wade was handed over the captaincy in the recently concluded 2nd T20I against India, things became all the more heated up in the Australian media as they felt that Smith was being harassed. However, their coach, Justin Langer made it clear that they will go through the entire process to appoint Smith as the captain of the national side.
