On the morning of the day, it got confirmed that Kohli would not be taking part in the game; still, Iyer was not included in the playing XI.

The last Indian call-up for Iyer came way back in March and from then, he is yet to live the same dream. Though the right-handed batsman said that his job is to keep performing, regardless the face what selectors are thinking of him,

“As I told you before, my job is to keep performing. I won’t be thinking what the selectors are thinking. When you have runs backing you up, you can go in with full confidence. When you get a good start again in a new game, you want to ensure that you convert them into big scores. But whatever runs I have scored is past now. Tomorrow is a new day and I am looking forward to it,” Iyer told reporters on the eve of the practice game against New Zealand.

The Mumbai opener will lead the BCCI President’s XI squad. He recently led the India A side in the first three one-day against New Zealand A. Before that, Iyer had helped the India A side to win the series in South Africa where he played an innings of 140* in the finals.

Iyer had continued his impressive performances till now, and it is just a matter of time when he might make it to the Indian team. Chance may come in this home season itself, but these two matches are probably the final stage which he has to clear to get an entry in the national side.
