A total of 16 teams will participate in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020. Among these, 11 teams are full members and the other five teams have qualified through the regional qualifiers. The full members are Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Windies and Zimbabwe. India U19 will play as the defending champions as they won the record fourth time of this trophy in 2018 edition in New Zealand.
Active player Ian Bell can guide the English youth batsmen in the upcoming U19 CWC
Ian Bell, England’s fourth most run-scorer (13,331 runs) in international cricket, played his last international cricket match in November 2015. However, he is still an active player in domestic cricket but missed out the entire 2019 season due to the knee injury. But he wants to continue playing cricket in the next season. His present contract with Warwickshire will end at the end of next season.
Now he is likely to take up a new role. According to the ESPNcricinfo report, Bell is likely to guide the English youth batsmen in the forthcoming U19 CWC. As a young cricketer, Bell also experienced the U19 Cricket World Cup in 2000 edition when the England U19 side featured as the defending champions.
In recent times, the England U19 have failed to shine in the U19 Cricket World Cup. Since 2006, England U19 haven’t qualified for the semifinals of U19 CWC. In the last edition, they lost the Super League quarter-final against Australia U19. Later, they finished at the seventh position in that tournament.
If Ian Bell takes up the batting coach role of England U19, he will work under the head coach Jon Lewis.
