ICC Bans Tabraiz Shamsi’s Masked Man Wicket Celebration 1

South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi might not have the best variations with the ball in his artillery but he certainly boasts of some of the most entertaining celebrations. Time and again, the left-arm spinner has grabbed the headlines for his weird celebrations after picking up a wicket.

Who can forget his famous bus-driver’s celebration after he dismissed David Warner in the Indian Premier League. Since then, he has come up with several new celebrations. In the Caribbean Premier League, he came up with the pulling on a mask, the Mortal Kombat and shoe-telephone celebrations.

However, he will now no longer be able to repeat one of his celebrations. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Shamsi from pulling on a mask after taking a wicket on the field. He had first performed the celebration in this year’s CPL where he appeared for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. After dismissing Barbados Tridents’ Shai Hope, Shamsi had pulled out a scarf from under his neck before covering his face with it and wheeling away.

He had been doing the same celebration in the ongoing Mzansi Super League (MSL) too while representing the Paarl Rocks. However, the ICC, on Wednesday, informed the 28-year old that he is not allowed to pull out the mask any more while celebrating a wicket.

Meanwhile, Shamsi has not taken the ban kindly and has expressed his disappointment over it. He also made it clear that none of his celebrations are intended to disrespect a batsman.

“There is so much pressure on you as a bowler in a game,” Shamsi was quoted as saying on Netwerk24. “I’m having fun with my celebrations and it is definitely not because I want to be disrespectful to the batsman.”

Shamsi, who has become a regular for South Africa’s limited-overs team now, Tabraiz Shamsi has so far played two Tests, 11 ODIs and 9 nine T20Is.
