ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar Hopeful Of Reviving Cricket In Pakistan

The World XI tour of Pakistan will hopefully open up gates for teams to travel to Pakistan and resume cricket in the country. ICC’s initiative to have a World XI team to go to Pakistan and revive cricket is something they have been planning to resume cricket. The 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team led to isolation in the country as teams refused to travel to the country due to security and safety concerns.

ICC’s chairman Shashank Manohar believes that this tour will help resume cricket in the country. It is important for the public in Pakistan to watch international cricket resume in the nation. Fans in the country have been starving to watch cricket in Pakistan. It is important for the budding cricketers to understand that the ICC wants Pakistan to be a super power in cricket which it used to be once. Young fans love to watch their heroes play live in a stadium and then imitate them and represent their country on an international level.

Manohar said:

“This is a good day for world cricket as the PCB hosts a World XI in Lahore. It has been a long and tough journey as the PCB, Pakistan players and fans have been starved of the opportunity to stage, play and watch international cricket in their own country.”

This is coming from an Indian would also encourage the Indian and other nations to travel to Pakistan. ICC established a Pakistan Task force to resume cricket in Pakistan, Manohar added:

“The ability of Pakistan to play international cricket at home is crucial to the long term health of the game in Pakistan and one of the main reasons why the ICC established the Pakistan Task Force under the leadership of Giles Clarke, to explore, in partnership with the PCB, how we can get international cricket back to Pakistan safely and on a regular basis.”

ICC’s support towards PCB and Pakistani fans will reinstate hope amongst the fans in the country. ICC is trying its best to prolong cricket in the country as long as possible as it is best for both Pakistan’s cricket as well as cricket on the whole.

Manohar concluded by wishing both the teams luck at the end:

“I send both teams and the PCB the very best wishes from the whole cricket family for a competitive series that the passionate fans in Pakistan can enjoy. I sincerely hope that this week’s games mark the start of a steady flow of international cricket to this great cricket nation.”
