For Bangladesh, it was their old saviour Tamim Iqbal yet again who led from the front with the bat. Going into the semi-finals against rivals India, it was essential for the in form Iqbal to lead Bangladesh’s onslaught against an efficient Indian bowling attack. He did manage to do so with a fine half-century which set the base, but got out at the wrong moment, as his wicket led to the team’s downfall.

Electing to bowl first on an overcast morning, skipper Virat Kohli was delighted, as Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck early twice to support the captain’s decision. Opener Soumya Sarkar was castled in the very first over, trying to drive a ball which wasn’t meant to be. Sabbir Rahman looked good but was over aggressive and that led to his downfall, as he was caught at point.

Then began a flourishing stand between Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim, as the two were especially harsh towards the Indian spinners. The way with which they batted, it seemed Bangladesh would eye anywhere between 320 to 340.

However, it was the part-time spin of Kedar Jadhav which did the trick, as the off spinner took two quick wickets, including one of danger man Iqbal, to shift the game back in India’s favour.

Ultimately,  Bangladesh ended with 265 and set India a target of 266. Fans on Twitter lauded India’s bowling performance and below are some of the tweets.
