2017 ICC Champions Trophy: Twitter Reacts As Pakistan Beats South Africa In A Rain-Curtailed Game 1

It seems incredibly hard to believe that this is the very same Pakistan outfit which surrendered so meekly against India a few days ago. Keeping the ghosts of their game against India behind, Pakistan simply stunned South Africa with an emphatic bowling performance at Birmingham in their Group B match. It was a day which reminded viewers of the good old days when the Pakistani bowlers were always a handful for all batsmen.

Batting first upon winning the toss, South Africa regretted that decision soon, as the centurion of the previous game, Hashim Amla was sent back early for just 16, trapped LBW by Imad Wasim. Quinton De Kock, despite getting his eye in and settling in, threw it away, as he was dismissed by the off-spin of Mohammad Hafeez.

The turning point though, was AB de Villiers getting out on the first golden duck of his career against Imad Wasim. That moment simply puts South Africa on the backfoot, and despite Faf du Plessis trying his best to stage a recovery, nothing like that could happen.

David Miller played a knock which usually isn’t quite associated with his style of play, as he restricted his instincts and took hold of the situation with well-composed innings. With rain interrupting again, the match ended with Pakistan taking two points home by winning it by 19 runs (D/L Method) and putting up the first upset of Champions Trophy 2017.

Fans on Twitter hailed Pakistan’s bowling and below are some of the tweets.
