After rain threatened to play spoilsport in the final of the 2013 edition, the rain gods showed some mercy and the much-anticipated game was reduced to 20 overs. Batting first, India posted a modest 129 for 7, giving  England their best chance of winning a major global ODI title.

However, the hosts began poorly as they were reeling at 46 for 4 in 9th over before Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara put them on the path to a memorable win with a 64-run stand that came off just 55 balls.

With 28 runs needed off the last three overs, Dhoni handed the ball to Ishant Sharma and the pacer made the worst possible start, getting hit for a six by Morgan before bowling two consecutive wides. However, the lanky pacer flipped the match on its head by dismissing both the set batsmen on consecutive deliveries. Jos Buttler and Tim Bresnan’s dismissal in quick succession all but ended England’s hopes. With six runs needed off the final over, James Tredwell swung his bat hard at an R Ashwin delivery but missed the ball completely as India won their second Champions Trophy title.
