Former Indian cricketer Mohinder Amarnath hopes India to defeat Pakistan in their blockbuster International Cricket Council World Cup 2015 opener at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
Though Pakistan are having a stronger One Day International record against India, Pakistan have never been able to defeat their arch-rival and defending champions in 5 World Cup contests till now, the last of which came 4 years ago at Mohali in the semi-final.
Mohinder Amarnath IANS on the sidelines of a Royal Stag Perfect Strokes event that there is no huge difference between the two teams. Both have good individual skilled players but he would go with the record and statistics. India has always done and performed well against Pakistan in ICC World Cup. But if India defeated them this time, it will be because of their batting performance and not bowling.
However, this will be India’s 1st World Cup competition against Pakistan which will not include batting legend cricket ‘God’ ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar, who has been roped in as the ICC World Cup 2015 ambassador, took retirement from One Day Internationals (ODI) in 2012. He played in all India games against their arch-rivals in the 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2011 versions of the ICC World Cup.
Mohinder Amarnath, who was man-of-the-series during India’s 1983 World Cup triumph, was quoted saying: “Tendulkar has been a great player but every player has to retire and you can’t get a replacement of his calibre anywhere. Not only him but players like Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, V.V.S. Laxman, Yuvraj Singh are irreplaceable.”
