MS Dhoni and Mustafizur Rahman fined 75% and 50% match fee respectively by ICC
ICC fined India captain MS Dhoni and debutant left arm left arm medium pacer of Bangladesh Mustafizur Rahman for their on-pitch clash. Mustafizur was delivering second ball of 25th over. In the follow-through instead of going right Rahman opted to block Dhoni’s running between the wicket, in turn Dhoni deliberately elbowed rookie teenager who fell on the pitch, later went in the dressing room for minor treatment.
The incident is drawing criticism from every flank of the cricketing world. ICC fined Dhoni and Rahman 75% and 50% of their match fee respectively.
Mustafizur did the same to Dhoni what he did to Rohit Sharma while India was chasing Bangladesh’s target of 308.
After hearing out both Dhoni and Mustafizur, match referee Andy Pycroft found the Indian captain guilty of Level 1 offence, the penalty for which is a fine, rather than a Level 2 offence which can lead to ban. The Bangladesh team decided not to file a complaint against Dhoni.

The Indian team manager Biswarup Dey was present with Dhoni during the hearing.
After the match, which India lost the match by 79 runs, Dhoni and his Bangladesh counterpart tried to played down the incident. Dhoni said, “the bowler thought I would move away while I thought he would move away while I thought he would. But as none of us did, we collided. This can happen in any match. It’s nothing big. I spoke to him later,” said Dhoni.
“Things like this can happen on the field during a match. We all shake hands at the end of that day and such situations can be discussed with the on-field umpires. It is nothing serious,” Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza stated.
